Liverpool’s stadium expansion plans will be delayed due to coronavirus

Liverpool’s plans to expand Anfield will be delayed due to coronavirus outbreak.

According to The Times reporter Paul Joyce, Liverpool’s plans of expanding the Anfield Road End stand later this year are now likely to be pushed back due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Liverpool had planned to start working on the expansion of the Anfield Road End stand this year, which would have seen the total capacity of our stadium increase by 7,000. Currently, Anfield can seat 54,074 and the number was expected to rise to 61,000 once the work at the Anfield Road End stand was completed.

However, that will now be delayed due to the impact of the coronavirus. The deadly pandemic has brought the world to a standstill, with Europe particularly being affected seriously. The country has gone into lockdown in order to battle the pandemic.

With construction companies being forced to postpone current projects, that is likely to hamper the schedule for the work on the expansion of our stadium as well.

This is not the only Liverpool-related construction project to be impacted due to the pandemic. Construction has been stopped on the club’s new training complex in Kirkby

until further notice after construction company McLaughlin and Harvey implemented social distancing measures as per government directives.

This would mean that our first-team squad could potentially continue to train at Melwood next season. (h/t Daily Mail)
