According to Slovenian sports paper EkipaSN (h/t Daily Mail), UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has admitted that he cannot imagine a scenario where Liverpool are not crowned the Premier League champions this season.
“I cannot imagine a scenario, in which the champions would not be Liverpool.”
He admitted that he cannot see anyone but the Reds crowned champions once the Premier League season resumes. The Reds need just six more points to guarantee the title and Ceferin believes the Reds are on the verge of success.
Ceferin went on to state that in the scenario that the season goes unfinished, a way will have to be found in order to declare the final results.
He went on to admit that the landmark league title for the Reds could take place in an empty stadium or in league offices. Ceferin is aware of the disappointment it will create among fans but refuses to dismiss it as a possibility.
“If the Premier League resumes play, Liverpool will almost certainly win the title. ‘Theoretically it’s not all over, but practically Liverpool are on the verge of it.”
Ceferin admitted that UEFA has not made a decision on how results are to be finalized if the season goes unfinished. Although the governing body are not working on a solution at the moment, he vowed to be ready if it comes to that.
His remarks will come as a blow to a number of our detractors who have been keen to see us be denied the title. The coronavirus crisis that is plaguing the world does deserve our complete attention at the moment. It makes no sense to void a season that is more than 75 percent complete.
Instead, the matches can resume when it is deemed safe to do so. Ceferin’s words coming on the back of FIFA deciding to extend the current season indefinitely will be a relief to the Reds. (h/t Mirror)
Liverpool have been the dominant side in England this season. We currently hold a 25-point lead over Manchester City in second place. Anyone saying we do not deserve the title has not watched the games this season or is Rio Ferdinand.
We have waited 30 years for a league title and are now on the verge of it. Although we wish we could have achieved it in better circumstances, seeing the trophy end up at Anfield will do for now. The Reds are getting back onto their perch and everyone can see it now.
