Liverpool are just six points away from a well-earned Premier League title. Little did anyone know that the biggest threat to the title would come from a pandemic.
With the season currently suspended, the Reds faithful are hopeful that it can resume once it is safe to do so. Jurgen Klopp’s side are nearly at the finish line and there have been calls of late from both FIFA and UEFA that indicate that a favorable resolution can be reached.
According to the New York Times, one more such example could be from the Bundesliga, who are keen to implement a radical new plan to resume football in Germany.
The Germans are contemplating a return to action in May, with the season scheduled to be completed by June. This is applicable to the top two divisions of football in the country.
“We are part of the culture in the country, people long to get back a short piece of normal life, and that could mean the Bundesliga plays again”
Two working groups have been set up to deal with how best to cope with hosting a game and also a hygiene plan for matches and training. The report also goes on to say that games would be played behind closed doors and could continue to be so until the end of the year.
The Bundesliga chief executive Christian Seifert believes that the return of football will be a signal of a community limping back to normalcy. He will talk to the government to come up with a solution and believes the act will bring certainty to players, staff, and society as a whole (h/t New York Times).
Although it would have been good to see us lift the title after 30 years at a sold out Anfield, present circumstances make that extremely unlikely. However, we will settle for just the trophy as we have clearly been the best team in the land this season.
If anyone has a doubt regarding that, we have 25 points to prove why.
Liverpool have not released any statement regarding the current Premier League season. We personally feel it makes more sense to finish a season that is more than 75% complete before moving onto the next one.
