Liverpool formulate plan to advance promising 19-year-old starlet’s progress

Curtis Jones to play a bigger role at Liverpool next season

Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones is on his way to becoming a household name.

The youngster made his first appearance of the season in the famous Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal last season. He showed nerves of steel as he went on to score the winning penalty in the shootout that night.

The maturity he showed that night made an impression. He would go on to make a number of appearances in cup competitions for Liverpool over the next few months.

Curtis Jones scored against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup

He came into the limelight when he curled in the winner, as a youthful Reds side overcame Everton, much to the chagrin of Carlo Ancelotti. Jones would go on to add another anecdote in Liverpool history when he became the youngest Reds captain in history by leading the side out against Shrewsbury Town.

He has, however, found appearances hard to come by in the Premier League and has played just 19 minutes in the competition.

According to the Mirror, the Reds staff rate the youngster very highly and believe that his development will be best served by him staying at the club rather than go out on loan.

The exit of Adam Lallana will open up another spot in the squad that Jones can fill. With the veteran on his way out, the youngster is in line to play more minutes next season.

Klopp is also ready to sell Swiss international winger Xherdan Shaqiri in order to give more opportunities to Jones.

All the signs indicate towards Jones having a future at Liverpool. Still only 19, it makes sense for the Reds to ease him into the team rather than throw him in at the deep end.

The Reds had, in the past, played talented youngsters such as Robbie Fowler and Micheal Owen too much, too soon. Those lessons look to have been learned as they aim to help Jones take the next step.
