Kylian Mbappe considers extending PSG stay amidst Liverpool interest

According to French publication L’Equipe (h/t Mirror), Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe is considering extending his stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

It will double his wages and put him beside Brazilian superstar Neymar in the same wage bracket. Mbappe is one of the most sought-after players in world football. Aged just 21, he has the world at his feet.

He was linked with a move to both Real Madrid and Liverpool. The Reds are not expected to make a big splash in the market, given the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

The 21-year-old has continued to impress at the Parc des Princes. Contracted to PSG until 2022, Mbappe has scored 18 goals and 7 assists in 20 Ligue 1 matches this season. The Parisians were crowned champions after the campaign was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The French man was given the title of the most valuable player in the world by CIES Football Observatory with an estimated transfer value of £226million. The Reds are well represented with the list containing four Liverpool players in the top 15.

PSG are unwilling to let the player go for anything less than the market value, having paid £166million to sign him in 2017. Such exorbitant sums are likely to be a thing of the past with no club being immune to the COVID-19 fallout.

Already labelled too expensive in the best of times, it is difficult to see Liverpool spend anything close to the fortune to bring the Frenchman to Anfield.

The Reds have a settled front three with a number of promising youngsters coming through. It can be argued that on an individual level, Mbappe is better than any Liverpool player. Collectively, however, the Reds are a force to be reckoned with.

A versatile player who can play anywhere across the frontline, Mbappe has made 120 appearances for the Parisians since joining them in 2017. He has scored an incredible 90 goals and 49 assists as he has formed a formidable attacking triumvirate alongside Edinson Cavani and Neymar.

Mbappe is the second teenager since the legendary Pele to score in a World Cup final. A two-time French Player of the Year, he played a crucial role in France’s triumph in the competition in 2018.
