Georginio Wijnaldum waiting for contract negotiations to begin
According to Sky Sports, the representatives of Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum are still waiting for negotiations over a new contract with the club to begin.
The 29-year-old Wijnaldum arrived at the club from Newcastle United in a £25m deal in 2016. During his time at Anfield, the Netherlands international has grown into a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield unit.
In the season gone by, Gini started all but three of our Premier League matches as we went on to lift the title, indicating his importance to the side. He finished the campaign with six goals from 47 appearances across all competitions.
Having signed a five-year contract with the club upon his arrival in 2016, Wijnaldum has entered the final year of his deal with Liverpool. Negotiations were to begin earlier this year, but the club decided to shelve the plans amidst the coronavirus crisis. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
And as per Sky Sports, the midfielder’s representatives are still waiting on any form of talks with the club over a new deal for the Netherlands international. However, the report does add that there is little indication as to Wijnaldum will be leaving the club this summer.
Seeing as he is one of the most-used players by Klopp, there shouldn’t be any concern over his current contractual situation. Wijnaldum is a key member of the side and as per the report, loves playing or the club.
