Hansi Flick issues update on Thiago future

As reported by the Daily Star, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has issued an update on the future of midfield star Thiago Alcantara, who is a transfer target for Premier League champions Liverpool.

The 29-year-old is in the final year of his current contract with Bayern Munich and has been heavily linked with a summer move to Liverpool.

On Sunday night, Thiago put on a masterclass in midfield as Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain to win the UEFA Champions League.

And, manager Flick was asked about the midfielder’s situation post the game, to which he jokingly responded (h/t Daily Star):

“No, he told me he is staying.”

When the whole room fell silent, Flick burst out laughing insisting that he was kidding and claimed that Thiago is yet to inform the club about his decision. (h/t Daily Star)

“You pulled a brilliant face! No, I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did every other player. I don’t know and he doesn’t know yet either (which club he will join), because we all focused on this Champions League final. I think we will have to wait for what the following days will bring.”

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career with the Bavarian giants since joining them from Barcelona in 2013. His performance on Sunday night highlighted the quality and the passion that he would bring to Anfield, should we be able to sign him this summer.
