Liverpool and Barcelona confident about agreeing £15m deal for 29-year-old midfield star

Liverpool hopeful £15m deal can be reached with Barcelona for Georginio Wijnaldum

A report by the Sunday Mirror (h/t Express) is claiming that Liverpool and Barcelona are confident of reaching an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

The general mood surrounding Barcelona football club isn’t the greatest right now, with the Lionel Messi incident dominating the headlines . Despite the commotion surrounding the Argentine legend’s situation, the Catalans are trying to get some dealings over the line to provide Ronald Koeman with the right kind of reinforcements for the upcoming campaign.

Georginio Wijnaldum has been linked with Barcelona

And, although, the 29-year-old Wijnaldum was an important member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad last season, Barcelona are said to be hopeful that they can get a deal over the line in the coming weeks. (h/t Express)

It has been suggested that the Catalan side were hoping to acquire the Dutchman for £10m. But Liverpool could accept a bid in the region of £15m. Despite the question marks that have arisen about the move in recent weeks, both parties are said to be confident that an agreement can eventually be reached. (h/t Express)

The former Newcastle United man first joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2016, and has since developed into an important member of our squad. Not only has he delivered the goods in some of our most important matches, but the sheer energy and leadership that he brings to the core of the side cannot be underplayed either.

Wijnaldum has notched up over 180 appearances for the Premier League champions over the last four seasons, securing a decent enough return of 19 goals and 16 assists along the way.

The midfielder’s departure is sure to leave a hole in our midfield roster. But the potential arrival of Thiago (h/t Express

) from Bayern Munich could completely turn things around.

Defending the league title next season isn’t going to be an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. The teams around us have been strengthening drastically, and that makes things all the more worrying.

The sale of Wijnaldum might not be in the club’s best interest. But if it can fund Thiago’s purchase, then that’s a sacrifice that Klopp will have to make.
