Celtic slap £15m price tag on Liverpool transfer target Kristoffer Ajer

According to the Scottish Daily Mail (h/t Daily Record), Scottish champions Celtic have set an asking price of £15m for defender Kristoffer Ajer, who has been linked with Liverpool.

Having started out in his homeland Norway, Ajer moved to Celtic in 2016. Following a short loan spell at Kilmarnock, he has become a first-team regular at Parkhead and has played a vital role in the Hoops’ domestic domination year after year.

Till date, the 22-year-old has featured 133 times for Celtic so far, scoring five goals in the process. He has won three Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish League Cups and two Scottish FA Cups so far.

Reports last month (h/t Daily Star) claimed that Liverpool have identified the 22-year-old as a potential transfer target to replace Dejan Lovren. The Croatian left the club to join Zenit St. Petersburg upon the completion of the 2019/20 campaign.

His departure has opened up a spot in the backline, as we cannot go the entire season with just three senior centre-backs in the squad. Ajer, to that end, would be a viable option for the Reds.

And now, it is being claimed that Celtic will be willing to part ways with the Norwegian international, for a transfer fee of just £15m. In addition, they seem to have already identified a replacement for Ajer in Sampdoria’s Omar Colley.

Just 22 years of age, Ajer has shown a lot of potential and has his best years well ahead of him. Signing him for a fee of only £15m would be quite the coup as he can grow into a long-term partner for former Celtic ace Virgil van Dijk.
