According to a recent report by Voetbalzome.nl (h/t Express), Barcelona are said to have placed keen eyes on the services of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.
It has been claimed that the Egyptian has been identified as the Catalan side’s primary target for the summer, and that they would prefer to sign Salah over the previously linked Senegalese Sadio Mane.
The newly appointed Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is said to have personally selected Salah as the ideal target for the club. The former Chelsea man is said to be an important piece of the puzzle as Koeman tries to restore Barcelona to its former glory days. (h/t Express
)The questions marks surrounding the future of Lionel Messi were responsible for the silencing of most other transfer links. But with the Argentine confirmed to be staying on at the time, the Catalan side can now focus on being in reinforcements. (h/t Express)
The connections between the two clubs have been well-established over recent seasons, with the transfer of Philippe Coutinho the one that stands out. With all the recent talk surrounding the potential departure of Georginio Wijnaldum as well
, there have been no shortage of links between Barcelona and Liverpool. It was actually one of Koeman’s close friends – Sjaak Swart, a former Dutch international, who spoke to Voetbalzone.nl and addressed the matter. (h/t Express)
“I know Koeman wants him – and I know Salah wants to go. I am not going into anymore details but just believe me that I know.”
The above statement says that the Egyptian himself wants the switch to Barcelona, and whether or not that information is true remains to be seen.
One thing that can be said with certainty though, is that losing Salah would leave a gaping hole in this Liverpool frontline. The combination of Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino has been one of the features of this squad over the last few seasons. And taking that away would leave Klopp’s team with yet another squad rebuild on the hands.
