Report: Liverpool forward a subject of interest from as many as five clubs

Five sides battling it out for the signature of Liverpool’s Divock Origi

A recent report by Turkish outlet Ekrem Konur (h/t Mirror), is claiming that as many as five clubs from across Europe are currently battling it out for the signing of Divock Origi. Turkish outfit Fenerbahce have been named as the club currently leading the race, but discounting the other contenders would be a silly thing to do at this stage.

Although they have already made an inquiry to Liverpool on the player’s situation, the lingering interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton and Fulham could come as a stumbling block. (h/t Mirror

Divock Origi is a man in demand

Liverpool’s attack was nothing short of sensational in the league last season, as the trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino carried them to the league title.

For all the good work that the first-team did, it must be conceded that a percentage of the credit must fall into hands of the substitutes as well. One of the most important back-up players in this Liverpool roster is Belgian striker Divock Origi.

The goals that the former Lille man scored for the Anfield club must be taken into consideration when distributing the credit. Despite only being allowed a place in the side when one of the regular forwards picked up an injury, Origi’s work-rate and commitment to the cause, even when coming off the bench, were commendable.

Taking the striker’s goals out of the picture might not have directly hurt the title-run. But the additional option in attack did come as a boon to the manager.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to let the Belgian striker depart this summer as long as they receive a loan fee. Furthermore, it has been claimed that the Reds will insist on a clause which assures that he will be signed on a permanent basis at the end of the season. (h/t Mirror)

Considering the lofty ambitions that Liverpool are sure to aim for this season, selling a striker might not be the best idea until and unless a suitable replacement is secured.
