Liverpool’s chase for the services of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara over recent weeks has been no secret, as has been clarified by ESPN. Despite the apparent interest, there has been a lack of clarity about the actual situation until now.
The report has taken the opportunity to outline just what the midfielder’s current situation is. It also highlights the wage demands that the former Barcelona man has put forward ahead of a move.
It has been suggested that the Reds would need to sell before they can spend, and Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is the man that’s being touted as an option. If the Barcelona target (h/t ESPN) is sold in the summer, then Klopp’s side would have no difficulty funding the purchase of the Spaniard.
As things stand though, it has been claimed that the former Newcastle United man doesn’t want to leave Anfield. This could put the Reds in an extremely sensitive position going into the new campaign.
It has been claimed that Thiago will demand upwards of £200,000-per-week
as his wage. Paying that price wouldn’t be too much of a concern for Liverpool if Wijnaldum departs. With the number of elements that are in play here, there is the distinct possibility of a domino effect being triggered as the Reds’ chase for Thiago heats up even further.
Liverpool have managed to keep a low profile in the transfer window so far, with full-back Kostas Tsimikas the only confirmed incoming in the roster so far. Despite the fact that we won the title last season, it must be conceded that we were helped along the way by a fair some good fortune.
The likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were able to stay fit for a majority of the campaign. And this yielded positive results for the club. The upcoming campaign though, could prove to be a tricky one.
