Report: Liverpool willing to cash in star forward if £14m valuation is met

Liverpool open to selling Divock Origi if £14m valuation is met

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side currently possess five attackers in the roster – Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi. Of the five, the first three are all regular starters who play in effectively every match of the season.

Despite being brought in last summer, Minamino is yet to make too much of a name for himself in the Liverpool squad. He did put up a couple of decent performances in their pre-season friendlies, but the likelihood of the trickster becoming a regular starter is still looking bleak.

The other option for the role is Belgian striker Divock Origi, who has been a member of the Anfield books for a number of years now. Despite not being the most influential or impactful member in the roster, the versatile attacker has come good for the Reds on various instances over the last few seasons.

Origi still has scored a number of important goals for Liverpool

More than the quality he offers, Origi’s biggest selling point over the last couple of years has been the fact that he pops up with important goals in vital situations.

Despite this, The Independent are now reporting that Liverpool are finally willing to cash in on the attacker. Jurgen Klopp’s side are said to be demanding a price in the region of £14m for his services.

Newcastle United were the team that looked likeliest to purchase him, but their recent acquisition of Callum Wilson from Bournemouth has put a hammer in the works. Journalist Ekrem Konur has claimed that the player is interesting Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, who are said to be leading the race for his services. (h/t The Independent)

Fenerbahce are said to be in talks with the club about a deal. But a disagreement in the terms is what’s slowing the process down. While Liverpool are keen on including a mandatory close to buy at the end of the campaign, the Turkish side are pushing for a simple loan move. (h/t The Independent)

Despite being contracted to the Merseyside club for another four seasons, £14m is the price that’s been suggested. Origi’s departure could leave the Reds with just four attacking options to choose from, meaning that it could trigger the necessary purchase of another on this summer.
