Liverpool nominated for Team of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards

Liverpool have been nominated for Team of the Year at the Laureus World Sports Awards (via LFC Twitter). This is their second consecutive nomination after they came very close to winning the award last year.

The Reds were nominated on the back of a stellar league season where they lifted the Premier League for the first time in three decades.

Along with the Merseyside giants, Bayern Munich have been nominated as the other football team for their treble-winning campaign. Other sports teams such as Mercedes’ formula one team, Kansas City Chiefs, LA Lakers and Argentina’s rugby team are also in the running for the prestigious honour.

Liverpool won their first Premier League in style as they romped to the title keeping an 18 point gap over second-placed Manchester City. While they may have suffered a few defeats towards the end of the season, it was of no consequence as they ultimately lifted the trophy.

While they are in with a good shout to win the Team of the Year accolade for 2020, Bayern look much the likelier side to edge them with an all-conquering treble campaign.

It has been a completely different and catastrophic season for the Reds this time as they are already out of the title race and have been eliminated in domestic cup competitions.

It remains to be seen how the rest of the season pans out for Jurgen Klopp & co. and if they can somehow manage to turn things around for the better.
