According to Guillem Balague (h/t ECHO), former Liverpool gaffer Rafael Benitez harbours ambitions of managing the Reds once more. However, any chance of him returning to Anfield at the moment has been ruled out due to the presence of a certain Jurgen Klopp.
The highly-decorated manager is currently out of a job after leaving Dalian Pro in the Chinese Super League. There has been a lot of buzz as to where he will end up next and one of the clubs he has been linked to is Celtic who recently let go of Neil Lennon.
Balague spoke on the possibility of Benitez returning to Anfield to manage Liverpool.
“There is a feeling of unfinished business with Rafa and Liverpool, I’ve always said that. Rafa would love to be the Liverpool manager at some point. Maybe in a time of crisis, proper crisis, not what’s happening now.
“Maybe in a time where there’s a need for a strong personality to steady a ship. But right now in the way that the owners are behaving and Klopp and everything, that situation doesn’t exist. How can we think that Klopp has reached the end of an era? Look at the bigger picture, how can anyone suggest that? It’s laughable. It’s stupid and absurd to be talking about a future without Klopp.”

Benitez last managed in England a while back with Newcastle. Balague cleared that there was also no possibility of him returning to St. James Park. He thinks that Newcastle are going in no direction and that no approach has been made. Adding to that, he was surprised that someone like Benitez is without a club but that could change at the right moment.
