“I am surprised” – Liverpool star comes out in support of teammate after recent displays

Liverpool star Sadio Mane speaks out on Alisson situation

Sadio Mane has come out in support of his Liverpool teammate Alisson Becker because of the questions raised on the latter’s performances. The forward says he is “surprised” at this “strange” situation where Alisson’s position in the side is being questioned. (h/t Mirror)

It has been an uncharacteristic season from the Brazilan shot-stopper though. He committed two very huge errors against Manchester City and another against Leicester, all three of which led to Liverpool conceding goals at vital stages of the game.

Despite the errors, he has been trusted to keep his place in the side. It does show the faith Jurgen Klopp has in him but the mistakes did cost the team massively. Mane was asked about Alisson and the current situation regarding him.

“To be honest, sometimes I am surprised when people talk about Alisson’s mistakes. But at the same time, I know it’s part of the sport. When the best goalkeeper in the world makes one or two mistakes, I think, for sure, that is strange. But it’s not just him, it’s the whole team. But how many times has Alisson saved us? Without him, we would probably never be Champions League champions or have any trophy.”

More Liverpool News:

In a season where Liverpool have faltered on so many grounds, Alisson’s errors do come as a bit of shock given how reliable the Brazilian has been since his move to the club in 2018. He has often bailed his side with crucial saves in their Champions League and Premier League wins in 2019 and 2020.
