According to A Bola (h/t Mirror), Liverpool could get another chance to sign Nuno Mendes of Sporting Lisbon. A bid from the Reds was rejected by the Portuguese giants last summer while the full-back has kept producing one good performance after the other.
While the youngster did sign a new contract at the club with a huge release clause of €70m
, Sporting have the feeling that he could leave for a lesser amount. However, they are keen to get as much as they can from one of their prized assets.Along with Liverpool, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the highly-rated teenager. So far, he has made just 32 appearances and scored a goal for Sporting but has managed to impress everyone. Capable of playing as a centre-back too, Mendes is a very versatile player.
However, Sporting might just be forced to cash in on the player due to financial problems. Liverpool, on the other hand, maybe reluctant to splurge a big sum on a young player but they are very likely to invest in their defence next season.

In that sense, Mendes can be a good deputy to Andy Robertson while developing for the future and providing competition. Liverpool did sign Kostas Tsimikas but he has been a rare sight in red. It remains to be seen if Liverpool revisit their interest in Mendes given how talented he is.
