Transfer News: Liverpool told signing Leicester City star Youri Tielemans would not be an easy task
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Leicestershire Live), former Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor, stated that Leicester City midfielder, Youri Tielemans, is a transfer that Liverpool should look to complete in the summer.
The Reds would be on the lookout to replace the outgoing Georginio Wijnaldum. The 30-year-old Dutchman is off to PSG as a free agent after not renewing his contract at Anfield.
And Youri Tielemans is a name ‘strongly’ linked with the club as a potential replacement for him. Tielemans was influential for the Foxes in this year’s FA Cup final as he scored the winning goal.
The midfielder has made a good impression at Leicester since his move from AS Monaco in 2019. He has himself a fan in Agbonlahor as well, who thinks that the Belgian is good enough to play for Liverpool in place of Wijnaldum.
“He’s a great player and Liverpool definitely need to replace Wijnaldum. I thought they needed another midfielder even if Wijnaldum had stayed. It’s definitely something Liverpool need to get over the line.”
Go for Youri!
However, the ex-Premier League frontman warned the Reds that Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester would do everything they can to keep a hold of the 24-year-old.
“I just don’t see Leicester letting him go though, even if the player wanted to go. I don’t see Leicester letting any of their better players go.”
Agbonlahor would have a lot of Liverpool fans agree with him regarding the need for Liverpool to sign a player like him. But with the Foxes fighting to be amongst the top clubs in England, it won’t be the easiest task to sign him.

Tielemans or not, a midfielder has to replace Wijnaldum. Curtis Jones has impressed; but at 20, it is unrealistic to expect him to shoulder Wijnaldum’s entire workload at the club. In light of this, the Reds could well be helped by signing someone in the summer.
