PL club director opens door for sales amid Liverpool links with two stars

Brighton director hints at player sales amid Liverpool links to Yves Bissouma, Pascal Gross

Speaking to The Athletic, Brighton & Hove Albion technical director Dan Ashworth has suggested that the club will not stand in the way of any player leaving should the right offer arrive. This is likely to come as a boost for Liverpool who have been linked with two Brighton stars.

Indeed, the Reds have shown an interest in Malian international midfielder Yves Bissouma for quite some time now while Pascal Gross has also emerged as a target for Jurgen Klopp & co. (h/t Express

Bissouma has been with Brighton since 2018, having signed from LOSC Lille and has grown into a reliable box-to-box midfielder at the Amex Stadium. With Liverpool having lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, the Reds are in need of replacing the Dutchman.

And, Bissouma would be a solid, like-for-like replacement for Wijnaldum, who has now signed for Paris Saint-Germain. In addition, the Reds have, more recently, been linked with a move for Gross as well, who can be an economical alternative for Bissouma, although he would bring a different flavour to the side.

Now, Ashworth has indicated that Brighton wouldn’t stand in the way of any player moving to a bigger club should the right offer be made.

“We’re also realistic and if one of the top clubs comes in, it’s a brilliant move for the player and it’s financially right for us, then no problem.

“If the players are being courted by the top clubs, then that means Graham and the staff are doing something right because we are identifying and developing players that are able to play at the very top level.”

These comments ought to come as encouragement for Liverpool as they line up a move for either Bissouma or Gross. Two very different players, each will bring their own positives to the side – Bissouma’s energy and work-rate will be of major benefit, while Gross’ playmaking abilities would add another dimension to the play.

Whether Liverpool pursue either of the two Brighton stars this summer now remains to be seen,
