Transfer News: Liverpool could miss out on Florian Neuhaus as they search for Wijnaldum replacement
A report by German publication BILD (h/t The Express) mentions that Liverpool transfer target Florian Neuhaus, could stay at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Neuhaus is highly thought of by Liverpool’s hierarchy as they look to replace the PSG-bound Georginio Wijnaldum. But the German has held positive talks with Adi Hutter, the new Monchengladbach boss. (h/t The Express)
Hutter took over the reigns after Marco Rose vacated his position. And now, Neuhaus, who is valued at £34million by his club, could stay at the German side for at least another year.
The 24-year-old midfielder impressed this season in the Bundesliga which has earned him a call-up the German national team for the Euros 2020.
Bad news for Liverpool
Wijnaldum was an ever-present midfielder in Jurgen Klopp’s line-up and his absence will be felt. But with Neuhaus tipped to stay, the Reds could have to look elsewhere for a midfielder.
The report mentions that Liverpool are unlikely to wait to get their hands on Neuhaus but if they go back in for him they must be wary of Bayern Munich, who are also keen on the midfielder.
Curtis Jones is one midfielder who can be given a bigger role in the team next season. Jones alongside Naby Keita and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain can provide good cover for Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Thiago.
However, Klopp should be wary of an injury crisis akin to the one that happened with them this season. In the event of a repeat situation, Liverpool could struggle to field quality on the pitch.
