Transfer News: Liverpool want Italy and Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi

A report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Mirror) mentions that Liverpool are eyeing Sassuolo winger, Domenico Berardi, for a potential transfer move.

The Italian winger has made a big impression at Sassuolo this season with 17 goals and 8 assists in all competitions. And he has taken that form into the UEFA Euros 2020 with Italy where he has featured in back-to-back 3-0 wins.

Apparently, Liverpool are not the only Premier League side after him. The report cites Tottenham Hotspur as well as Leicester City as two other potential suitors.

Berardi, now 26, is a product of the Sassuolo youth academy and has spent his entire professional career in Italy. His price tag is said to be in the region of around £43million.

Signing Berardi would be a wise move

At his current age, he is a player in and around his peak. And hence, any potential move to Anfield would see him compete for starts on the wings, especially with Mohamed Salah on the right.

While he can play in multiple positions in the attack, Berardi has spent a large chunk of his career playing down the flank, which is occupied by Salah at Liverpool.

While he can be a sturdy replacement for either of Liverpool’s wingers in the long term, his immediate importance cannot be undermined either. The Reds need quality attackers to compete for starts.

They already have Diogo Jota to do that but Berardi can offer a great option to Jurgen Klopp this season especially when Sadio Mane and the Egyptian winger leave for AFCON at the start of 2022.

Klopp has already completed the signing of Ibrahima Konate and a potent winger like Berardi, who is making waves in Serie A as well as the Euros, would be icing on the cake.
