Transfer News: FC Porto maintain Marko Grujic pursuit

According to a report by foreign outlet O Jogo via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), FC Porto have made signing Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic a priority in the summer transfer window.

The Serbian international joined the Reds from Red Star Belgrade back in 2016. However, things haven’t worked out for him at Anfield and he has gone out on multiple loan spells.

Grujic plied his trade with the likes of Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin on a temporary basis before spending the latest season at Estadio do Dragao with his current suitors.

And it seems they now want to sign the midfielder permanently. It is unlikely the 25-year-old would make it to Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI, considering he has just 52 minutes of Premier League football in his career.

Grujic to Porto

He could be the second senior midfielder to depart Anfield this summer after Georginio Wijnaldum. The 30-year-old Dutchman saw out his contract and has left a big hole to fill in Liverpool’s midfield.

But Jurgen Klopp should know that the team would need a more experienced player than Grujic to take over the helm. And that is why it is important for the club to dip into the transfer market this summer.

The article by Sport Witness, citing O Jogo (h/t Liverpool Echo) mentions that Liverpool are hopeful of making a profit on their player and that Porto will not ‘give up’ in the chase.

“Following Grujic’s good final months at Porto, Liverpool are now hopeful they could make a profit with his sale. After spending €7m to sign him from Red Star in 2016, the Reds would now like to get about €15m with his departure.”

Only time will tell if Grujic is a Liverpool player next season. But if the Reds can get a fair amount for him, then not many fans would mind the out-of-favour midfielder leaving Merseyside.
