The Spanish club announced on their social media account that the 21-year-old has renewed his deal which will keep him at the Anoeta until at least 2026.

The Swedish striker stated his happiness at signing the new deal as he spoke to the official club website after putting pen to paper. According to AS (h/t The Daily Mail), his new release clause is ‘closer to Β£86million‘.

“I’m very happy to continue at la Real. It is a great club, I feel loved here and hope to enjoy things with this team for many more years.”

Isak transfer made difficult

This would come as a major blow to Jurgen Klopp. The German, according to the Daily Star, was hoping he could persuade the Swedish international to join his squad for the next season.

But any deal now looks very tough. Roberto Firmino looks like he can use some competition up front as he failed to impress in front of goal last season.

Isak is also putting on a great show for the Swedes at the Euros and hence, the interest from a club like Liverpool, followed by a subsequent contract renewal at his current side, does not come as a massive shock.

This should not deter the club if they are indeed pursuing an attacker in the summer. Divock Origi has not looked capable of permanently leading the line if last season was anything to go by.

And a dependable striker alongside Firmino can surely benefit the team further next season. Whether that turns out to be Isak remains to be seen but the chances of signing him have surely taken a hit with his new contract.
