Liverpool-linked forward to be sold imminently; German outfit lead the race

Transfer News: Liverpool target Donyell Malen to be sold but Borussia Dortmund lead the race

According to a report by Dutch outlet De Telegraaf via The Boot Room (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool transfer target, Donyell Malen, is set to leave PSV Eindhoven in the next two weeks.

The report mentions that Malen can leave the club by 21st July. However, it is not Liverpool that are in the driving seat, with Borussia Dortmund being in ‘pole position’ to sign the 22-year-old.

Malen was let go by Arsenal’s academy as a teenager but has done well for himself in the Eredivisie. He netted 27

times in all competitions and provided 10 assists last season- numbers that warrant interest from top European sides for him.
Donyell Malen of Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven is a transfer target for Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

But it seems that the Reds may have to resort to looking at other targets – if any – in case they want a centre-forward. Jurgen Klopp may not see Divock Origi as the man to compete with Roberto Firmino for regular starts.

BVB want Malen

After all, he played the equivalent of two full games (181 minutes) in the Premier League last season. Mohamed Salah is Liverpool’s main goal threat up front, but he could do with some help.

Firmino, as impressive as he is, was not at his goal-scoring best last season. Malen, in that regard, could be the ideal understudy to the Brazilian – but Dortmund’s interest makes any potential deal a bit more difficult.

Diogo Jota signed from Wolves last summer and is capable of playing as a number 9. But he is not a natural target man – a dynamic that Liverpool could do with if they want to shake things up next season.

More Liverpool News:

The Portuguese’s services can come in handy on the wings as a backup to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. And for that, Jurgen Klopp should make sure that Liverpool do not have to comprise when it comes to the attacking department next season.
