Luke Chambers signs first professional contract at Liverpool

The official Liverpool website confirms that 17-year-old Liverpool U-18 player, Luke Chambers, has signed his first professional contract at the club.

Chambers plays as a left-back where, according to the club website, he “defends with poise” and “can also be a threat at the other end of the pitch”. He scored his first goal for the U-18 side against Burnley in April.

This was his first season with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s U-18 Liverpool side. Chambers ended the season making 11

appearances for the team in the league and had a substitute appearance in a FA Youth Cup win against Manchester United.

Liverpool’s academy has produced a number of quality young talents in recent years. Curtis Jones, Neco Williams, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have come through the youth ranks to become a part of Jurgen Klopp’s senior Liverpool squad.

Larouci out, Chambers in?

And the club would be hoping for something similar from Chambers. This new contract for the Preston-born youngster comes after Liverpool saw Yasser Larouci leave the club this summer, as confirmed by The Athletic (Subscription Required).

Larouci was a regular fixture for the U23 Liverpool side under Barry Lewtas. That gives Chambers a chance to work his way up to the senior team through the U23 side next season.

That could be a few years from now, though, so Chambers’ new contract does not mean that he will instantly be given a crack at senior football. The Reds have that department sorted for now.

Scotland captain, Andy Robertson, and Kostas Tsimikas are the two left-backs Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal; and the ever-so-versatile James Milner also possesses the ability to play in that position if and when called upon.
