According to a report by 90min.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have renewed their transfer interest in Watford winger Ismaila Sarr.
The club wanted to sign the Senegal international last year as well but opted to go with Wolves forward Diogo Jota. However, it seems like the Reds’ interest in Sarr has piqued once again. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
The report mentions that Jurgen Klopp ‘is a big fan’ of the former Rennes winger, and has made him one of his ‘top targets’ in this transfer window.
Moreover, the Reds are said to be willing to pay up to £40million for Sarr, with the winger instructing the Hornets to make a move happen.
Sarr caused unwelcome heartache to Liverpool’s fanbase during the 2019/20 Premier League season. The 23-year-old netted twice to hand the Reds a 3-0 loss in February 2020.
That loss meant the Reds’ unbeaten start to the season was over and they could not claim the title of being invincible. Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp’s side went on to win their first Premier League title by a record margin.
Sarr is a player that can offer important backup to Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the wings. But he is another player that would have to depart during AFCON 2022.
In the absence of Mane and Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations, the Reds can benefit from having a winger who doesn’t play in the tournament. Apart from that, Sarr can fit in well at Liverpool and would be an explosive option to have on the bench.
At 23, he is at an age where has plenty of top-flight experience, while he also has enough time ahead of him to learn and improve himself as a footballer.
