According to Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi (h/t Liverpool Echo), SS Lazio have made an offer to sign Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri.
The dynamic Switzerland international joined the Reds from Stoke City three years ago. But he has mostly been on the bench for the club and has failed to cement his spot in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
And Lazio are now believed to have made a €12million offer for the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan forward. The Reds, on the other hand, would be open to Shaqiri leaving but only if their €15million valuation is fulfilled.
Shaqiri has given fans some cherishable moments during his stay in Merseyside, none more than his performance against Barcelona in that 4-0 comeback during the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League season.
His situation at Liverpool, however, is complicated, and it has been that way for a while. A regular for the Swiss international team, he failed to get regular game time under Jurgen Klopp throughout his stay at Anfield.
It could partly be down to the fact that the Reds house two of Europe’s best wingers in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. However, that doesn’t mean they can compromise on depth.
Injury, international duty, or squad rotation can all contribute to the duo being unavailable for selection. At such times, the Reds must be well-stacked. Shaqiri is a versatile player who would be up to such a task.
But if he is sold, then any money that comes in should go towards getting a forward. The Reds seem to have ample depth in defence and even in midfield (at least on paper, but the frontline is an area that demands further strengthening, regardless of the 29-year-old’s future.
