Welsh duo to join up with Liverpool squad for pre-season amidst exit rumours

Harry Wilson and Neco Williams to fly out to Austria for what could be their final Liverpool pre-season

According to The Liverpool Echo, Harry Wilson and Neco Williams are set to begin their pre-season preparations today.

The duo were a part of the Welsh squad that took part in this summer’s European Championship. It was a disappointing tournament for them as Denmark thrashed them 4-0 in the first knockout round. The duo will now aim to put that dissapointment behind and link up with Jurgen Klopp’s side in Austria.

They go into the summer knowing fully well that their days at the club could be numbered. Both players have been linked

with a move away from Merseyside this summer.

Wilson has enjoyed numerous spells on loan away from Anfield but has failed to impress for his employers in Red. Now 24, it is time that both sides parted ways ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool are not keen on sending the winger on another loan and will prefer to sell him permanently. Wilson, to his credit, has done well away on loan and has attracted attention from a number of clubs including Benfica. The Portuguese giants have however failed to meet Liverpool’s asking price of £13m.

Neco Williams has not been a regular for Liverpool

A suitable backup

The situation with Williams is however different. The 20-year-old is keen to play regularly, a prospect that is difficult given the presence of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The young English star is one of the best in his position and Williams will struggle to displace him. Liverpool for their part are not keen to part ways with Williams. With Trent currently recovering from an injury, Williams has an opportunity to showcase what he is capable of in the summer.

Whether this will lead to him staying put at the club remains to be seen. While he is not the finished product, he is an able defender who has stepped up and delivered when needed.

Williams has good potential

More Liverpool News

Given the quality in the Liverpool squad, it is difficult for youngsters to break through at Anfield unless they are unusually talented. Wilson and Williams have enough in them to make a difference elsewhere. What the future holds for them remains to be seen.
