Liverpool looking to hijack Eduardo Camavinga transfer
According to Anfield Central (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool are looking to trump Manchester United to the signing of French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.
The 18-year-old is one of the finest young players on the continent and has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Liverpool have now thrown their name into the hat by approaching the player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett.
Camavinga is in the final year of his contract and could leave for free next year. Rennes could be forced to cash in this summer to avoid losing their star player for nothing.
United have already made direct contact and could sign Camavinga as a replacement for Paul Pogba. The 18-year-old is a regular for Rennes and has made 82 appearances, scoring twice and assisting five more for the Ligue 1 side. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Liverpool too are in the market for a midfielder following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum. While the likes of Saul Niguez and Renato Sanches have been linked, Camavinga presents an interesting proposition.
The youngster’s massive potential makes him one to watch out for in the years to come. Moreover, he could develop well under the mentorship of stalwarts such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. The former is also nearing the latter end of his career and it is imperative that we mould his successor in the next few seasons.
Camavinga shares the same agent as Ibrahima Konate who moved to Merseyside earlier this summer. The Reds could make use of this positive relationship with Barnett to steal a march on United.
