Transfer News: Liverpool starlet Tony Gallacher set to leave the club this summer
According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool starlet Tony Gallacher is all set to part ways with the club this summer.
The 22-year-old joined the club from Falkirk in 2018 and has since represented the club at various youth levels. Having made his first-team debut for the Scottish side at 18, much was expected of the youngster at Kirkby.
Unfortunately, he has failed to kick on and has made just one first-team appearance for the Reds. This came in the famous League Cup clash against Aston Villa in 2019 while the first team was away participating in the FIFA Club World Cup.
A member of Liverpool’s developmental squad, Gallacher has largely featured for the club’s Under-23 side. He has failed to return to contention for first-team appearances since and spent the first half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Toronto FC.
While he did receive opportunities, his performances did not get any tongues wagging. Gallacher could now be set to join Sunderland on loan while a permanent deal has not been ruled out. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
The Reds are in favour of a permanent solution and Gallacher could become the latest name to leave the club this summer. The 22-year-old could benefit from regular playtime and a switch to the lower leagues could do him good.
Considered as one of Scotland’s best young talents back in 2017, Liverpool beat off competition from Manchester United, Rangers and Stoke City to land Gallacher. Unfortunately, he has failed to kick on and establish himself at Anfield.
Thankfully for him, age is on his side as he looks to rekindle his career at the top level. Perhaps this is the moment for him to take a step back so that he may be able to take two steps forward in the future.

Despite potential, not everyone can make it at a club such as Liverpool. Gallacher’s inability to do so is a sad reminder of that. Thankfully, this is not the end of the road for him and he could yet reinvent himself as a dependable player in the years to come.
