Transfer News: Liverpool brace as West Ham bid prepare for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

According to the Express, West Ham United could make a move for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The 27-year-old joined the Reds from Arsenal in the summer of 2017. He took his time to get settled and really got into the groove as the season wore on. However, he suffered an unfortunate injury in the UEFA Champions League semifinals against AS Roma that cut his purple patch short.

He has since struggled to stay fit and has failed to kick on. Ox is not a key member of the team and can be said to be one of the few players who have failed to flourish under Jurgen Klopp.

According to the report, the Reds could be willing to part ways with the Englishman. Klopp is keen to restructure his squad ahead of the new campaign and Ox could be one of the players to make way.

A switch to the London Stadium could be on the cards with West Ham keen to take the player on loan. The Hammers are keen to replace Jesse Lingard who now looks set to stay at Manchester United and Ox is one of the targets in the fray.

He is, however, not the Londoners’ first choice. That honour belongs to West Bromwich Albion’s Matheus Periera with Chelsea’s Ross Barkley also in the fray.

As things stand, it would not be a disaster if Liverpool cashed in on Ox. However, there is little to be gained by sending the player out on loan. If we are to part ways, it is in the club’s best interests to pursue a permanent solution.

Liverpool are currently in the market for reinforcements. However, they have been stymied in their efforts thanks to the club’s allotted non-homegrown quota being full. It makes little sense for us to sell Ox given that he is as English as they come.

Ox could still have a role to play at Liverpool this season. The Reds are keen to get back to challenging Manchester City for the title and will need all hands on deck to sustain a title challenge.

The 27-year-old has shown in the past that he has what it takes to be the team’s trump card. Whether he can channel that into his veins for one more season remains to be seen.
