Liverpool allow Xherdan Shaqiri to leave for £10m

Liverpool have allowed Xherdan Shaqiri to leave the club this summer for a fee of £10million, according to Sport1 (h/t Florian Plettenburg).

In his three seasons at the club, Shaqiri made 63 appearances, while he also scored 8 goals in that time. The Swiss looked an incredible signing when he joined the Reds in 2018 for just £13.5 million, thanks to a release clause relating to relegation in his contract.

Shaqiri’s best performances, however, came in his debut season for the club when Liverpool went on to win the Champions League, while they also missed out on the Premier League title by a single point to rivals Manchester City. The former Bayern Munich man will however be remembered by Liverpool fans for his assist

for Gini Wijnaldum’s goal against Barcelona where the Reds led an inspired 4-0 comeback at Anfield.

However, ever since he joined the club, Shaqiri has had to play second fiddle to Mo Salah as both players share a similar profile– left-footed forwards who prefer playing on the right-wing.

This season, Shaqiri only managed 22 appearances in all competitions as he scored a single goal and provided 4 assists over the course of the season. However, he had a fantastic Euros, where he scored 3 goals in 5 games and helped Switzerland reach the quarter-final.

Shaqiri would, however, be pleased if he gets a transfer this summer as he has been vying for more consistent game-time. The Swiss has been linked with two Italian clubs, namely Napoli and Lazio, with both clubs in touch with the winger’s representatives.

Additionally, La Liga’s Sevilla and Villarreal were also initially interested in signing the player on a loan deal, but are now adamant on a permanent transfer.

Xherdan Shaqiri is linked with an exit from Liverpool

Thus, Shaqiri will quite likely leave Anfield this summer after winning a bunch of club trophies over the last three years.
