According to ECHO, Xherdan Shaqiri is happy to be back at Liverpool despite speculation surrounding his future. The Swiss star has told the club of his desire to leave but is still participating in the preseason training. Liverpool are said to be looking for £12m for him as interest is there from Spain and Italy.
Once seen as an astute signing by Klopp to provide cover for his prolific front three, Shaqiri has fallen from grace in recent times. He has hardly been afforded game time on a consistent basis since joining the club three seasons ago. Last season, despite being fit for most of it, the talented winger was only afforded 17 league outings.
Yet, Shaqiri’s talent and quality were on full display for Switzerland in the Euros. He pushed his nation right till the quarter-finals with three goals and an assist. Nonetheless, he has returned to Liverpool’s training camp and is in line to make an appearance as well.
Despite asking the club to sanction a sale, he claims that he is happy to be back in training and wants to give it all for the side.
“I’m happy to be with the team again here. I’m looking forward to having a good pre-season and start a good campaign again. It was a very good Euros personally and of course with my country. It was something historical what we achieved and it’s something special for my country. I’m very proud of this.
“I’m looking forward to the new season and hopefully we’re going to achieve what we want to achieve with this club. Our goal is always to win, to play for titles and to give 100% on the pitch. Then we will see what happens. But, of course, we’re going to try everything to win.”
Shaqiri is valued at a modest £12m by Liverpool. Interest is also there from clubs such as Villarreal, Sevilla, Napoli and Lazio and the player’s representatives have also been talking over a move. However, it shows his professionalism that he has returned to training and wants to feature for the side despite the speculation.
