Transfer News: Sheffield United want Liverpool defender Ben Davies

According to transfer news from ECHO, Sheffield United manager Slavisa Jokanovic is interested in signing Liverpool defender Ben Davies. He was also interested in signing Ronaldo Vieira and wanted to get both the names in the squad.

It was puzzling, to say the least when Liverpool went ahead and signed Ben Davies from Preston North End right towards the end of the January transfer window. While Liverpool did need new centre-backs, they had already brought in Ozan Kabak on a loan deal and Nat Phillips was also impressing.

Davies is yet to kick a ball for the side in a competitive game. As expected most of Liverpool’s first-choice defenders are now back. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have all been featuring in preseason games. There are also Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams to consider. Let’s not forget Ibrahima Konate was signed right at the start of the summer meaning Davies sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nonetheless, he may just be offered a way out of Liverpool by Sheffield United. New manager Slavisa Jokanovic wants the player at the club and confirmed their interest in the Englishman and Ronaldo Vieira.

“I am interested in both players. Yes, I am interested in both. Like all the coaches around the world, we need some support and improvement.”

Liverpool are understood to be open to sanctioning a move for the out of favour defender. Celtic and Burnley remain keen on him but Sheffield United appear the most likely to get his signature. With some good amount of interest in the defender, Liverpool would be wise to cash in on him if a good offer comes along.
