Transfer News: Liverpool hold advantage in Arnaut Danjuma race

According to transfer news from Marca (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool are said to hold the advantage in the race for Arnaut Danjuma. Villarreal were said to be interested in the Bournemouth star but the player wants to return to the Premier League and could be tempted by Liverpool’s approach.

A youth product of PSV Eindhoven, he went on to progress through their ranks before departing for NEC Nijmegen. After a productive two seasons there, he went on to Club Brugge. It was there that he truly exploded onto the scene with his skills and trickery.

Bournemouth came for him a year later and he joined the Cherries in 2019. He has had a mixed spell at the club so far in the two seasons he has been there. In total, he has made 52 appearances scoring 17 goals. Danjuma had to endure relegation with them in 2020, but put up some stunning displays last season.

It would seem that the Dutch winger could be offered a way back to the Premier League with Liverpool. However, Villarreal had entered the race with an offer of £13m. Danjuma, though, harbours ambitions of a return to the Premier League which hands Liverpool an advantage in this case. An offer from Liverpool could sway his mind away from Villarreal.

In all honestly, it’s hard to understand why Liverpool want to go after another left-winger. The club already boast of Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota to play in that position and adding another name hardly makes sense. Although, it remains to be seen if Liverpool do end up going ahead with any sort of offer.
