Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus has been heavily linked (h/t Liverpool Echo) to Liverpool this summer. However, the move looks to be off. Monchengladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl suggests that the club have received no offers for the midfielder. He added that the player will stay with them for the 2021/22 season.
“We didn’t receive any offers for Florian Neuhaus over the summer“
“He will continue to play for us this season.“
It seems like Liverpool might need to look elsewhere for a midfielder. The 24-year-old has already started a competitive game for the club this season.
Florian Neuhaus is a central midfielder and scored 6 goals and 6 assists for his club in the Bundesliga last season. The German could be the player that the Reds are looking for.
Liverpool currently lack output from midfield. They have a good depth in terms of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Thiago and Oxlade-Chamberlain as starting options. However, none of them has shown major goal-scoring abilities.
The club have not had that profile of player ever since Phillipe Coutinho left. Thiago was signed last summer to provide some creativity from the middle. However, he found it difficult to replicate his abilities in the Premier League last season.
Someone like Neuhaus could ease the load on the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. It would also add a different dynamic to Jurgen Klopp’s side, who usually don’t break the lines from the midfield.
The club are also yet to replace Gini Wijnaldum, who left us this summer.
