Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Renato Sanches
According to the Liverpool Echo, Renato Sanches was left out of Lille’s matchday squad to face Nice on Saturday amidst links with Liverpool.
The midfielder has been linked with the Reds all summer as Jurgen Klopp is aiming to provide more cover in the midfield area. After Gini Wijnaldum left the Reds for PSG this summer, the club could be short of quality reinforcements in midfield.
Apart from this, the injury concerns of Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara were a problem last season and, in a bid to avoid this again, Klopp could still complete a move for a midfielder this summer.
Sanches was a crucial player in Lille’s Ligue 1 victory last season as he featured in 23 games for the French outfit and ended up scoring 1 goal and providing 3 assists from midfield. The 23-year-old also went on to feature for Portugal at the Euros as he helped his nation reach the Round of 16 of the competition, where they eventually bowed out to Belgium.
Moreover, it was also understood earlier this week that the Reds were leading the race to sign Sanches this summer ahead of the likes of Barcelona. While there was no indication of Lille ready to let the player leave this summer, financial distress and problems could lead the French club to sell the player.
Lille are said to value the player at £40million, and Sanches himself might want to move to the Premier League to prove his worth after he failed to do so during a poor loan spell with Swansea City in 2017.

With Lille manager Jocelyn Gourvennec also ruling out any reasons of injury for Sanches’ absence, a move could be on the cards for the player, courtesy of which Liverpool will be on alert to sign the player if he does decide to leave the French outfit.
