Liverpool are set to miss Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker, and Fabinho for key fixtures this season
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are set to miss the trio of Roberto Firmino, Alisson Becker, and Fabinho for key fixtures this season, including a trip to Old Trafford.
As per the new rules of FIFA, Premier League clubs cannot stop players appearing for their country anymore even if they are supposed to quarantine when they return from their respective countries. This is a huge problem for Liverpool, who are set to miss key players.
Firmino, Alisson, and Fabinho are three of the nine Premier League players named in the Brazilian squad for the upcoming international break and they are at risk of missing at least one round of the Premier League fixtures as their last game is scheduled to be played 48 hours before the English league resumes.
Even if the players manage to return in time, they will not be able to feature in the matchday squad as they will be facing a 10-day quarantine in a hotel due to the Covid restrictions as Brazil is a red-listed country. This could also entail the players missing a second round of fixtures as well.
Back in March, Jurgen Klopp did not allow his players to leave during the international break as the rule stated that the clubs that possess players who face a five-day quarantine on their return from international breaks will be allowed to refuse to release their players.
However, the German boss cannot do so anymore, and in an even bigger problem for the Reds, Brazil also have fixtures scheduled in October. If the restrictions remain the same in October as well, Liverpool will be facing the prospect of losing their Brazilian trio to another round of fixtures including their trip to Old Trafford at the end of the month.
