Transfer News: Liverpool looking at Sevilla winger Lucas Ocampos

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are considering a transfer move for Sevilla star, Lucas Ocampos.

The player is contracted at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium until 2024. With three years left on his current deal, he could command a hefty transfer fee.

According to Sky Sports, Ocampos’ contract with Sevilla, at the time of signing, contained a £62million release clause. If the Spanish side does demand that fee, then it wouldn’t be peanuts even for an establishment like Liverpool.

There is, however, no indication regarding Sevilla’s intentions regarding the Argentine right now. The 27-year-old is one of their better senior players and was influential in their run to the UEFA Europa League trophy in 2020.

Ocampos at LFC?

The winger has previously played at top clubs such as Olympique Marseille, AC Milan, AS Monaco, Genoa, and River Plate in his native country. Should Liverpool then make a move for him?

The club has an array of top wingers in Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Sadio Mane. But with all three starting at the same time under Jurgen Klopp so far this season, the club would need quality backup for the season ahead.

Xherdan Shaqiri is the latest to add his name to departees from the Merseyside club this summer after a £9.5million switch to Lyon. The club is really thin when it comes to having accomplished substitutes on the bench.

More Liverpool News:

As of now, Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino – both of whom were heavily out of favour at Anfield last season – are the attacking options that the German manager has on the bench, alongside centre-forward Roberto Firmino.

A move for Ocampos, thus, could be an option worth looking into for the Reds.
