Rival PL manager relaxed about Liverpool transfer target’s contract talks

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers relaxed over Youri Tielemans contract situation amid Liverpool interest

Speaking in an interview (h/t Express), Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers, remained optimistic regarding contract talks with Liverpool transfer target, Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian midfielder has made a big name for himself at the King Power Stadium in recent times. His headline moment came in the FA Cup final against Chelsea last season when he scored the only goal of the game to bring home the cup for the Foxes.

And since then, the midfielder has seen interest

from Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United. Tielemans even recently stated on Sky Sports (h/t Express) that he was keeping all options open as Leicester aim to tie him down on a new deal.

“I’m open to everything. The transfer market has just closed, but I want to keep as many options as I can open.”

Rodgers, however, seems relaxed about the 24-year-old midfielder’s contract talks and the Northern Irishman even seemed to appreciate Tielemans’ honest answer.

“He gave an honest answer and it’s open to whatever way it’s interpreted. For me, I have a player who is so committed, one of the best professionals I have ever worked with. Talks have been ongoing with Youri and his representatives.”

Liverpool lost Georginio Wijnaldum this summer but did not sign anyone in the summer transfer window to directly replace him. Harvey Elliott seemed to be the player Jurgen Klopp trusted this season to fill that void, but the teenager himself picked up a serious injury against Leeds United.

More Liverpool News:

Amidst this, signing Tielemans would make sense for the Reds. The Belgian international has a lot of years ahead of him and with Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson slowly entering the last few years of their prime, he could be the player to succeed either one of them- if the Reds somehow manage to sign him.
