According to the official Liverpool club website, Mohamed Salah has won the Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for his immense start to the Premier League season.
He edged out Kostas Tsimikas and Harvey Elliott for the fan-voted award. The Greek left-back was an impressive presence in Andy Robertson’s absence while Elliott, before his injury against Leeds United, was a welcome creative presence in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield
The Egyptian forward has been the club’s primary goal-scoring threat ever since he joined from AS Roma in 2017, and he recently joined the Premier League 100 club when he scored against Leeds United.
The former Chelsea and Basel winger scored his 100th career Premier League in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Leeds. When asked to pick his favourite goal from the lot, Salah seemed to struggle a bit, but it’s evident that he rates his goal against Manchester United at Anfield in 2020 very highly.
“I can’t choose one, there are a few that are nice. Chelsea was good, but I think the one I was very emotional [about] was the United one at home, the last minute. The away one was good also, but I think the home one was my first goal against United and it was special.”
That goal, of course, sealed a 2-0 home win for the Reds against Manchester United in the 2019/20 Premier League season before football was paused globally due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Liverpool went on to win the league that season under extraordinary circumstances.
He has started this season in excellent form as well. The 29-year-old forward has 3 goals and 2 assists in 4 games so far and will look to win the Golden Boot this season.
Salah, unfortunately, lost the award to Harry Kane in the last campaign. But if we know anything about the Egyptian, leading the Reds to a trophy would be higher on the list than any other individual award.
