Barcelona turned down the chance to sign current Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in 2017

According to ElNacional (h/t Liverpool Echo), Barcelona turned down a deal for Mohamed Salah some four years ago as he eventually made his way to Anfield to join Liverpool.

It is believed that the sporting director of Roma offered the Egyptian international to the Spanish Club. Monchi, who was the Sporting Director of Roma at the time, was offering Salah for €40m. Barca turned down the offer to sign Ousmane Dembele instead. The youngster cost them a whopping £135.5m.

The former Basel player only managed 19 appearances in his time at Stamford Bridge. He then made the move to Roma in 2016. Mohammed Salah finally came to Liverpool for £34.3m in 2017 for his second stint in the PL.

He has played an integral part in all those achievements at Anfield and could be considered one of the best buys by the club in terms of the impact he has had. Salah has also collected a wealth of individual trophies in his time with the Reds.

He has gone on to cement his place in Liverpool folklore and has performed consistently ever since his second innings in the Premier League. The Egypt international is certainly a pivotal part of the attacking trio at Anfield and is consistently trusted by Jurgen Klopp.
