According to ElNacional (h/t Liverpool Echo), Barcelona turned down a deal for Mohamed Salah some four years ago as he eventually made his way to Anfield to join Liverpool.
Barcelona have had to suffer from financial mismanagement and distress in the last few months. With debt mounting, the Catalans have been forced to part ways with their important players such as Lionel Messi.
It is believed that the sporting director of Roma offered the Egyptian international to the Spanish Club. Monchi, who was the Sporting Director of Roma at the time, was offering Salah for €40m. Barca turned down the offer to sign Ousmane Dembele instead. The youngster cost them a whopping £135.5m.
The former Basel player only managed 19 appearances in his time at Stamford Bridge. He then made the move to Roma in 2016. Mohammed Salah finally came to Liverpool for £34.3m in 2017 for his second stint in the PL.
Since then, he has become an important part of the first team setup scoring more than 100
goals for the club. The forward also went on to win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Premier League with this squad. He has played an integral part in all those achievements at Anfield and could be considered one of the best buys by the club in terms of the impact he has had. Salah has also collected a wealth of individual trophies in his time with the Reds.
He has gone on to cement his place in Liverpool folklore and has performed consistently ever since his second innings in the Premier League. The Egypt international is certainly a pivotal part of the attacking trio at Anfield and is consistently trusted by Jurgen Klopp.
