Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaks about the Porto result and achieving another milestone

In conversation with Liverpoolfc.com, Jordan Henderson spoke about his 400th appearance for Liverpool and their stellar victory against FC Porto in their recent UEFA Champions League clash.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been a dependable asset for the Reds ever since he made the switch to Anfield from Sunderland. He had to endure some criticism in the early years at Merseyside. The English midfielder has definitely proved his naysayers wrong after all these years.

Liverpool have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title under his astute leadership. The Kop had to wait for three decades before the league title could finally come back to Anfield. Henderson has always been a leader on and off the pitch and the perfect role model to the younger lads who are coming through the ranks.

The Liverpool captain described his feelings as he played his 400th match for the Merseysiders:

“I can’t really describe the feeling, I still get the feeling every time I put the shirt on. I try to give my all for this club every single day. So when I put the shirt on every game, it’s an honour and I don’t take it for granted. To do it 400 times so far is pretty special. But I feel as though I’ve still got a lot left to contribute to this club and hopefully I can do it many more times in the future.

The 31-year-old midfielder is respected throughout the camp. He has proved himself on the big occasions time and again with a relentless hunger to be consistent and achieve greater heights.

He also explained that he was really pleased with the result as the Merseyside team went on top of the Champions League group table. Being a critical analyser of the game he also concluded that he was disappointed when Liverpool conceded a goal despite their dominance throughout the game.

Henderson’s milestone achievement was capped by a perfect night as the Reds ran riot in Portugal, winning by a scoreline of 5-1 against Porto. The attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino all got on the scoresheet with an impressive display on the night.

The Merseysiders will be looking to continue their rich vein of form in their next PL fixture against Manchester City. Liverpool sit on top of the Premier League table with a slender 1 point lead over the trailing 5 teams. This fixture could set the tone for the PL title race early in the season and send a strong message to other rival clubs.
