Transfer News: Liverpool are in the driving seat for Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham

According to Daily Star (h/t Express), Liverpool are leading the race to land Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham next summer.

The 18-year-old has been making waves across Europe with his performances for the German giants. Bellingham’s performances have earned him great interest from Liverpool, who are currently ahead of Manchester United in the transfer race.

The Reds have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window in which Ibrahima Konate was the only major arrival at Anfield. The Merseyside giants have also lost one of their most influential midfielders in Gini Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain.

The trio of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara are in their thirties and will need to be replaced sooner or later. Add to it Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury troubles and it is clear the club needs more reinforcements in the long run.

Bellingham could be a useful long-term addition and the talented young midfielder can add a dash of dynamism in midfield. The Anfield outfit have started this season in fine fashion and are still unbeaten in all competitions till now.

Bellingham has proven himself on the biggest stage and became the youngest player to score in back-to-back Champions League games. The youngster scored 2 goals and assisted 7 more for Dortmund in their first 9 matches across all competitions this season.

The teenager also made history with the English national side at this summer’s Euros. At 17 years and 349 days, he became the youngest player to ever feature in the competition. The record did not last long as Poland’s Kasper Kozlowski beat his tally by 103 days.

Jurgen Klopp has been mindful of rotating his players this season. The midfield is one area that could definitely use some reinforcements.

The former Birmingham player has the experience of playing in England during his time in the Championship. This could help the young midfielder if he ever made the switch to Anfield. Despite his reputation, he would still have to fight for a regular starting place in the senior squad.

However, given the age of some of Liverpool’s stars, it shouldn’t be long before he is strutting his talents in the first XI.
