Liverpool among the clubs keeping tabs on Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin

According to CalcioMercato (h/t Football.london), Liverpool are one of the three Premier League teams in the fray for Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin.

The French winger has made an excellent start to this season for Newcastle, scoring two goals and providing three assists in six Premier League games so far this season. He remains the standout player in an increasingly poor Magpies side.

The 24-year-old’s performances have also caught the attention of the Premier League duo Chelsea and Everton. The French footballer has become an integral part of Steve Bruce’s squad in recent times and could be auditioning for a bigger challenge elsewhere.

The French international possesses impressive dribbling skills and can get from A to B on the pitch pretty quickly. This could see him provide competition to both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah on the wings. He will, however, have to fight for his place in this Liverpool side will find playtime harder to come by at Anfield.

Saint-Maximin has played more than 50 matches for Newcastle United in the Premier League and has substantial experience in the English game. He could provide some great backup to Jurgen Klopp’s already dangerous Liverpool side.

While Liverpool’s frontline remains amongst the best in the world, the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have lost the skip in their step. Adding more competition will certainly give Klopp more options and reduce the over-reliance on his first-choice front three.

At 24 years of age, Saint-Maximin has the potential to be a great long-term investment. The Magpies, however, have come to rely on the winger in their attack and it remains to be seen if they let him to a PL club easily in the near future.
