Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hints Trent Alexander-Arnold could be unavailable for fixture vs Manchester City
In conversation with BT Sport (h/t Sky Sports News), Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told reporters that Trent Alexander-Arnold could miss out on their fixture against Manchester City.
The 22-year-old wing-back wasn’t part of the Liverpool squad that travelled to Porto for their UEFA Champions League match against the Portuguese club. This raised some suspicion over the ability of the youngster in the future. Klopp’s comments could also mean that the Reds are without the young full-back for a considerable amount of time
The Liverpool manager commented on the wing-back’s availability ahead of the weekend outing against City:
“It didn’t look serious but we did further assessment and it was serious. He is out for today for sure, he didn’t travel, and it doesn’t look great for the City game as well.”
Alexander-Arnold is an important part of this Merseyside team. He is a homegrown Scouser and provides a great attacking threat down the wing. The youngster, along with Andrew Robertson, has gone on to cement his place as one of the best wing-backs in England and Europe.
Liverpool are currently on top of the Premier League table. The match against Manchester City could be important to set the tone for the rest of the season. Klopp already has to deal with injuries in the middle of the park to players like Thiago Alcantara and Harvey Elliott.

With the Reds entering a hectic schedule, the 54-year-old manager would want his key players fit and running for the team. James Milner, Joe Gomez or Neco Williams could be in line to fill Alexander-Arnold’s shoes in that particular position. That being said, Man City is always a tough opposition and the youngster’s presence could be sorely missed if he is ruled out for the match.
