Liverpool is one of the clubs tracking 18-year-old Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Florian Wirtz

According to a tweet by Christian Falk of BILD Sport, Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing 18-year-old German midfielder Florian Wirtz.

The tweet suggests that Bayern Munich currently have the upper hand in securing the services of the young attacking midfielder. Along with Munich top English clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are also showing keen interest in the teenager.

The midfielder could be a great long-term asset to the club and his youthful vigour could add some impetus to Liverpool’s attacking threat. Jurgen Klopp has been mindful of rotating his players in the early part of the season. Despite these precautions, the Reds have a host of players like Thiago Alcantara, Harvey Elliott, and Trent Alexander-Arnold temporarily unavailable.

The 54-year-old manager would be wanting to add some reinforcements in the middle of the park as none of Liverpool’s midfielders are getting any younger. The teenage attacking midfielder could be important and would give this Merseyside team more mobility through the centre of the pitch.

His inclusion could also help the boss rotate his players for different competitions and preserve the fitness of his core players in the future. The 18-year-old midfielder has started the new season in fine fashion. He has already scored 5 goals and provided 4 assists in 6 matches across all competitions for Leverkusen in this campaign.

If Florian Wirtz makes the switch to Anfield, he would have to fight for his place in this relatively experienced Liverpool side. It could mean a significant reduction of his game time with a senior squad but could also be a rewarding experience in his development as a footballer.
