Transfer News: Liverpool interested in securing the services of Porto midfielder Otavio Monteiro
According to Record (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are keeping tabs on 26-year-old Porto playmaker, Otavio Monteiro.
The attacking midfielder is an integral part of Porto’s midfield. He has scored 19 goals and provided 52 assists in 192 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese club.
Gini Wijnaldum left the club for Paris Saint-Germain recently and Liverpool haven’t purchased a like-for-like replacement yet. Early injuries to Harvey Elliott and Thiago Alcantara have put further strain on the Red’s midfield options. Curtis Jones has stepped up to play his part but it could prove to be too much pressure for the youngster at this point in time.
Otavio could be a great addition to this squad. It would provide more options for Jurgen Klopp who would like to rotate his midfield for the different competitions across the campaign. This would also help add more depth to the squad and help them in their bid to perform at a higher level more consistently.
Liverpool had to suffer a grave injury crisis last season. With several key players injured for huge chunks of the campaign, the Reds couldn’t get their hands on any silverware. The club were pretty inactive in this transfer window and Ibrahima Konate was the only significant addition to the squad.
Even though the Reds sit on top of the Premier league table right now, the matches will come thick and fast. The Merseyside team could thus be pushed to add some reinforcements to strengthen and add more depth to their squad in the coming window. Otavio Monteiro could be a great way to add some more attacking threat into the Liverpool midfield.
