“A massive difference”: Klopp calls on supporters to play their role in title six-pointer against Man City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp calls upon the Anfield crowd to rise to the challenge against Manchester City

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has called upon the fans to do what they do best against Manchester City on Sunday night.

The Reds take on the defending champions in what is the standout tie of the weekend. The game holds special gravitas for both sides and could potentially turn into a six-pointer in the title race.

City won 4-1 at Anfield last season, their first win at the stadium in 18 years. They were not just aided by Liverpool’s poor run of form on the night but the lack of fans in the stadium as well.

Anfield is a different world when the fans are in full song.

It will not be the case this time around and Klopp very well knows it. As someone who has helped harness the club’s 12th man into a crucial player, the German is well aware of the difference fans can have in the arena.

“There is a massive difference at Anfield with or without fans, so let’s set a new level with them.”

He has called upon every single person in the crowd with an affiliation to Liverpool to show their support on the night. The Reds, when on form, are a sight to behold. The same, when backed by an Anfield crowd, is nothing short of a juggernaut.

“Let’s give it a proper try, all together, and be as powerful a unit as we can.”

Time to remind City what a full stadium looks like.

Guardiola, meanwhile, has attempted to play it cool. The City boss believes it is better to play with fans in attendance. Not something he will know about given his recent run-ins with the Etihad faithful.

“I’m sure the players would prefer to play with fans at Anfield than without.”

The Catalan is one of the best managers in the history of the game. However, his City sides have more than on one occasion failed to rise to the challenge at Anfield. It will hopefully be more of the same this time around as well.

The Reds are riding high after a 5-1 demolition of Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night. With their 12th man behind them, they will be hoping to inflict a second straight defeat to Pep Guardiola’s men. Putting them in their place could set the tone for the title challenge that is still taking shape.
