Transfer News: Liverpool are interested in signing 17-year-old Barcelona midfielder Gavi
According to Spanish publication, El Nacional via HITC (h/t Liverpool Echo), Premier League giants Liverpool are interested in Barcelona midfielder Gavi
The 17-tear-old recently made it to Ronald Koeman’s first team at the Nou Camp. He also featured for Spain against Italy on Wednesday night in the UEFA Nations League semifinals. He was impressed on the night and was amongst La Roja‘s best players.
Gaci has a £50 million release clause in his current Barca contract. This has done little to deter Liverpool who remains keen to secure his services.
Jurgen Klopp has an excellent midfield but Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara aren’t getting any younger. Adding Gavi would be a step in the right direction for the club’s future.
Gavi has displayed tremendous technical ability on the ball. More so his offensive mindset could give Liverpool something they have lacked of late- a creative force in midfield.
Barcelona are not currently in a good position financially. Despite parting ways with the likes of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, the situation has hardly improved. Whether Liverpool can take advantage of the situation remains to be seen.
